Halifax Bus Station

The Project

Halifax town centres’ new and vastly improved bus station. Sited on the existing bus station grounds with challenging sloping terrain, this project provided café and newsagents facilities for the bus stations patrons as well as offering a comfortable well-lit fully glazed internal space whilst waiting for onward travel.

The Work

A F Connell Ltd were employed to undertake the design, install, testing and commissioning of all the mechanical, electrical and plumbing services on this project.

The project consisted of a naturally ventilated bus station achieved by automatically openable windows to the full perimeter of the building. Air conditioning was also installed to the inner “core”, where the travel office, managers office and staff facilities are located.

Multiple utility services were brought into the scheme serving the bus station, the existing first building, café, newsagents and 2No. lettable demises within the listed Sion Chapel building. The electrical installation consists of site wide access control and CCTV system (which is linked to the clients wider West Yorkshire facilities), full data system, fire alarm system, small power system and intelligent WiFi mesh lighting system to the concourse. An irrigation system was installed to the bus station roof supplying the “green roof” system. An element of photovoltaic was installed to supply the bus station and café with an environmentally friendly renewable energy source.
